An audiologist specializes in the assessment, diagnosis and management of hearing loss and balance disorders in adults and children.
Audiologists perform hearing tests to identify the cause, nature and degree of a hearing loss. If required, audiologists are able to manage hearing losses by providing hearing aids. Thereafter they provide adjustments and maintenance of hearing aids. Audiologists play a key role in providing education and counselling families about hearing losses.
Audiologists are also able to perform cerumen (wax) management, newborn hearing screenings, school screenings, map cochlear implants, provide custom ear plugs, and perform electrophysiology testing.
